The SME Fund is a national initiative aiming to expand access to finance for local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across key sectors.  

The Fund was established in partnership between Bahrain Development Bank (BDB), Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK), the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB), and Al Salam Bank, with support from Tamkeen. Applications for the fund can be submitted through BDB.  

• Enterprise holds an active Commercial Registration (CR) from MOIC or an active license from the relevant regulatory authority 
• Enterprise must be based in Bahrain 
• Enterprise must not have violations from Tamkeen, LMRA, or any other relevant government entity 
• Enterprise must be a Small, or Medium Enterprise (SME) 
• Enterprises considered finance companies, brokerage institutes, public benefit associations, enterprises whose activity is the purchase, sale and rental of real estate are not eligible.  
• Enterprise must not have defaulted on a facility whereby Tamkeen paid the guarantee  

The SME Fund provides Sharia’a-compliant financing with flexible repayment terms of up to five years.  

We will support enterprises by providing support through profit subsidies and guarantees (within the approved or allocated limit)
