Tamkeen Holds Session in New York on Achieving Sustainable Development Goals

The Labour Fund “Tamkeen” has recently held a session titled “Fostering Entrepreneurship & Innovation to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals” at the sidelines of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s participation in the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) at the United Nation’s headquarters in New York.

The event was attended by Mr. Mohammed Al Mutawa, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs.

“The Kingdom of Bahrain has many success stories to share in meeting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” Mr. Al Mutawa said.

“The Labour Fund “Tamkeen” is a distinguished national example in supporting sustainability and development goals by fostering the Bahrainis human development and making them active partners in the Kingdom’s total development.

“Investing in human development comes at the top priorities of Bahrain Government’s plans and programs. This session is a great opportunity to highlight some of Tamkeen’s key achievements in stimulating the Bahraini talents and supporting small and medium businesses to contribute to the growth of our national economy,” Mr. Al Mutawa added.

For his part, Tamkeen’s Chief Executive Dr. Ebrahim Mohammed Janahi hailed the consorted national efforts towards supporting Bahrain’s reform efforts.

“Bahrain has launched many reform initiatives to contribute to Bahrain’s inclusive developments in line with the wise leadership’s directives to meet the principles and objectives of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030,” Dr. Janahi said.

“Tamkeen’s session during HLPF seeks to shed light on Tamkeen’s key role – as part of the reform initiatives – in supporting sustainable economic and human developments,” said Dr. Janahi.

Tamkeen’s session highlighted the national efforts in nurturing the entrepreneurial eco-system, including Tamkeen’s part since its establishment in 2006 in providing the developmental programs and grant support to both enterprises and individuals to boost the private sector and make it the key driver of economic growth.

Tamkeen’s Chief Investment and Marketing Officer Dr. Nasser Qaedi pointed out during the session that Tamkeen has invested towards supporting over 170 thousand enterprises and individuals.

“Through our business development initiative, we supported more than 45 thousand enterprises making up to 53% of active businesses across the country,” he added.

Tamkeen’s participation in this HLPF comes as part of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s emphasis on the importance of meeting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals.
