1.What is Basic Skills Training Scheme?
The Basic Skills Training Scheme is an initiative launched by Tamkeen that aims at enabling Bahrainis to acquire or enhance their core skill-sets making them more employable or enhancing their performance at their current jobs.
2.Who is eligible to apply?
Individuals who are:
- Unemployed and employed Bahraini nationals
- 16 years old and above
- Not enrolled in a formal educational programme at the time of registration and is not registered in any other of Tamkeen's offerings
- The scheme is open for all employed candidates receiving a salary below:
- BD 270 for high school graduates
- BD 350 for diploma holders
- BD 400 for Bachelors holders
3.Can all employed individuals apply?

4.How do I apply?
Complete and submit the application form attaching all required documents. (Refer to “Required Documents” Section)
5.What basic skills courses can I apply for?
Four basic skills are covered in this scheme:
- English Language: enhancing the ability to interact and have conversation with others, express thoughts, feelings and opinions (both written and oral) properly and convey information with clarity – Internationally accredited certificates.
- Numeracy Skills: understanding and using numbers, basic graphical information and diagrams in daily work situations.
- Computer Use: developing the ability to use IT and to process information in ways which will be useful at work or for providing and creating information– Internationally accredited certificates.
- Professional Certification QCF Level 1-3: The professional qualification has to be internationally accredited certificates from a professional specialized awarding body.

6.How and when will payments / reimbursements be made?
You or the training service provider can make an online payment request upon the successful completion of the requested course and it will be processed after the submission of the complete payment documents. The reimbursement amount will cover 100% of the requested course’s cost approved by Tamkeen. It takes up to 60 days to process each payment from date of submission of the complete required payment documents.
7.Can an individual make a payment request?
Yes, an individual can make a payment online request after successfully completing the course and paying the full course fees to the training provider.

9.How will I know if my application has been accepted or rejected?
You will receive a notification email from Tamkeen informing you of your status You may also check your status online, after a maximum period of one week from the date of submission. If your status says:
- Submitted - Your application has been received and is currently being processed by Tamkeen.
- Pending - Your application is missing the required documents. Please check the “Remarks” section for more details.
- Approved - Your application has been accepted.
- Rejected - Your application is not approved. Please check the “Remarks” field for the rejection reason(s).
10.What costs will the scheme cover?
Registration fees, tuition fees, exam fees, where applicable. The scheme will not pay for any extra costs incurred by the trainee that are not required by the course for e.g. extra classes, study guides, private tuition. Costs of re-sitting an exam have to be borne by the training provider or candidate.
11.For personal reasons I am no longer able to continue the programme. Will I be liable to tamkeen for any money?
As per the terms and conditions on the application form, no penalties will be applied on the beneficiary from Tamkeen. However, penalties relevant to the training provider may be applied. In addition, a “no-objection” letter should be provided from the same training provider in order to withdraw your application.
12.What is the approximate duration of a skills training programme?
This will depend on the schedule set by the training provider.
13.What happens if I fail to attend classes during the training?
Penalties relevant to the training provider may be applied.
14.Will I secure a job after successful completion of courses?
This program will increase the chances of employment. However, Tamkeen guarantees no employment opportunity after successful completion of the Basic Skills Scheme.
15.Is transportation provided from my place of residence to the training provider’s premises?
Such arrangement will have to be agreed between the individual and the selected training provider.
16.Will I get an allowance during or after completing the course?
No, Tamkeen’s support will cover the training course only throughout the training duration.
17.Will I be able to take a specific Basic Skills course more than once?
No, you are only allowed to take each skill once.
18.What are the maximum number of basic skills courses I can benefit from?
According to the scheme’s polices, you are eligible to take as many skills you require. However, you will only be allowed to take one Basic Skills course at a time.
19.What is the Training Support Cap?
It is the maximum amount that Tamkeen will pay for a specific training course. Training Providers may quote a higher price and you are required to pay the difference between Tamkeen’s Support cap and the quoted amount.
