Tamkeen Annual Report 2009 issued

Tamkeen is pleased to announce the issuance of its Annual Report for 2009 which documents its activities and achievements in the fields of developing and promoting growth of the private sector, developing human capital and supporting Bahrainis to become the employees of choice.

His Excellency Dr. Nazar bin Sadiq Al Baharna, Chairman of Tamkeen, indicated the ambitions of Tamkeen since its launch in 2007 “to contribute to improving the economy of the Kingdom of Bahrain through plans and strategies established on solid bases that aim at equipping the Bahraini workforce with the necessary tools to build a knowledge-based economic platform”.

The Chairman described the year 2009 with all major activities and achievements as “a rich prominent year that witnessed significant growth which supported the founding period and aspirations. Our existence paved the way for further consistence and harmonization with the Kingdom’s vision - a vision that will make Bahrain a prosperous, healthy and self reliant country that depends on coherent and contributive national workforce sharing a common feeling of belonging and ambition”.

HE Dr. Al Baharna praised “the efforts of the teamwork at Tamkeen which comprises of 39 employees with the assistance of a wide network of partners”, describing their work as “an effective contribution to changing concepts and ideas in Bahrain”. He also pointed out that “the programmes of private sector support alone contributed to supporting 3,212 projects until 2009, while targeting 27,560 market entrants and employees for specialised training through our programmes of human capital development. Thousands of other employees also realized the actual impact of Tamkeen through business and professional development programmes”.

In the Annual Report 2009, Tamkeen’s former Chief Executive, Abdulellah Al-Qassimi, indicated the prominent events and accomplishments witnessed this year throughout the short work span of Tamkeen, praising in particular the “the programmes of interaction with Bahraini youth. We also took the initiative through many of our partners to involve future employees in a number of programmes that are consistent with Vision 2030 and with our mission”.

Mr. AlQassimi also added “Tamkeen realizes that in order to build the future workforce, our programmes targeting entrepreneurs and SMEs should include much creativity and innovation to attract the youth of today. In this way and through close cooperation with our partners, we have developed and implemented tailor-made programmes this year to change behavioral patterns and solidify the positive professional code of ethics among the youth.” He also made clear that Tamkeen seeks through various programmes of corporate support to “improve their effectiveness, promote their competitiveness, encourage creativity and innovation and provide support to emerging sectors”.

Based on Tamkeen’s initiatives and successes, Mr. Al-Qassimi looked to the future and to the launch of 2010-2014 strategy as being a stage for “improving and enhancing the productivity of both employees and organizations, by making talented youth of today the competent employees of the future and the optimal choice for the private sector. The human wealth in the Kingdom of Bahrain should be more productive, effective and responsive. This hypothesis outlines and defines our strategy for creating more competitive private sector”.

The third annual report on Tamkeen’s progress, which commenced its operations in 2007,  entitled “Vision and Achievements” focuses on tackling the detailed aspects in eight chapters, including all initiatives and programmes provided by Tamkeen in private sector support, particularly the emerging sectors, as well as training and qualifying Bahrainis to effectively and successfully engage in the labour market.  The report also addresses the current projects underway in addition to the general features of Tamkeen’s 2010-2014 strategy.

Moreover, the report includes detailed schedules for various programmes of Private Sector Support (Enterprise Growth Management Scheme/Mohasaba Scheme/ Finance Scheme), Human Capital Development programmes (Skills Gap Programmes/Retail Sector Programmes/IT programmes/Training programmes), the number of beneficiaries from each programme and allocated and paid budgets. It also includes a summary of the vital activities and projects which Tamkeen provided and contributed to during the previous three years.

Based on Tamkeen’s principles of transparency and openness, the publication includes the independent auditor’s report to the Board members, including all revenues, expenses and other detailed financial statements.
